Description

The story of St. Jose de Calasanz, told in a series of 88 beautiful paintings by Segrelles reproduced as full-page illustrations with an accompanying text in Spanish, English, Italian, French, Hungarian, Polish, and Catalan. Interspersed throughout are 125 Segrelles sketches & studies for the paintings.

Joseph Calasanz (1557 - 1648) was a Spanish Catholic priest, educator and the founder of the Pious Schools, providing free education to the sons of the poor, and the Religious Order that ran them, commonly known as the Piarists. He was a close friend of the renowned astronomer Galileo Galilei. He is honored as a saint by the Catholic Church.
