The first volume of Conrad's adventure series for young readers. Donito is a young boy who lives during the times of the pirates, and can breathe under water. Full of cartoon action in a lush Caribbean setting. Conrad's watercolor depictions of the sea and underwater scenes are great.

One day, DONITO, the only son of a brave pearl diver, saves the life of a sea turtle, threatened with certain death. To thank him, the turtle gives the boy the secret of a wonderful algae which enables Donito to live and breathe under water. But Donito must swear to not reveal the algae's secret if he wants to have the right to use it.

In this volume, Donito is also introduced to an evil (but sexy) mermaid: the Siren of the Caribbean!
