From the dustjacket flap:

Whether presenting the joyous awakening of a princess from an enchanted slumber or the shivery descent into an evil queen's dungeon laboratory, the films of Walt Disney are filled with memorable images. Just as memorable are the many songs that accompanied the carefully prepared visual elements.

Walt Disney and his staff recognized the value of music to the storytelling process. The development of a story's musical score was as integral a part of the creative process as were the designing of characters, the fashioning of settings, and the shaping of the story itself. And like much of the artwork from the visual development period that would never be used in the final films, so too, were many songs composed, only to be set aside in favor of a different musical approach.

Disney 's Lost Chords presents for the first time full Vocal/Piano arrangements for 77 unused songs from the early development period of such classic Disney favorites as Cinderella, Lady and the Tramp, and Mary Poppins. As an added bonus this volume includes musical numbers from several projects like Rainbow Road to Oz and Chanticleer that were eventually shelved after initial development.

Accompanying the music are over 225 illustrations, many of which date from the same early development period as the songs featured here and are appearing in print form for the first time.

Both a visual and aural delight for Disney fans, Disney Lost Chords attests to the exacting nature of the storytelling process at the Walt Disney Studio, a process that resulted in some of the most beloved in the history of Hollywood moviemaking.

This came from the library of Burny Mattinson (1935-2023), an animator, director, producer, and story artist for Walt Disney Animation Studios, from 1953 until his death in 2023. Mattinson directed Mickey's Christmas Carol and The Great Mouse Detective. He was named a Disney Legend in 2008 and was the longest serving employee of The Walt Disney Company, with a career that spanned almost 70 years. His extensive library included numerous subjects and especially large collections of books on Disney, animation, and classic comic strips.
