An amazing document of Erich Sokol's "American Natives."
"American Natives" published in 1961 was Sokol's first book of drawings: 64 full-page black & white cartoons ... scathing portraits of American "types" much closer in style to his European editorial cartoons.
This archival collection appeared on the occasion of the exhibition "Erich Sokol: Gnadenlos genial" ("Erich Sokol: Mercilessly brilliant") at the Karikaturmuseum Krems (Krems Caricature Museum). It reproduces all the cartoons--plus 15 more that did not make the final book--from the original art, along with color photos taken by Sokol during his trip across the United States. A 50-page introduction is illustrated with 49 cartoons, photos and documents.
"American Natives" is in English. The rest of the text is in German.
