Description

This is a picture book full of great Deco sculptures of nude figures: men, women and children, by Gustav Vigeland (1869-1943). Text in English. Out of print.

From the back cover:

Gustav Vigeland has been characterized as the most controversial sculptor in modern times. Yet,all of his work belongs within the humanistic tradition in art. From beginning to end he has been preoccupied with man at all stages of life and in his most fundamental relationships as they exist everywhere and at all times. His art is both subjective and universal; subjective because through his highly emotional nature he conveys personal experiences and insights; universal because people of all ages recognize themselves in his sculptures.

In this book Tone Wikborg, head of Vigeland Museum, Oslo, gives a short introduction to Gustav Vigeland's art with special stress on his sculpture park.
