This book is divided into two parts: the first half is an examination of Germany and its history by Huber and illustrated with location sketches by Searle; the second half is purely Searle's cartoons of Germans and Germany (some in color).

Searle travelled to many regions of Germany over six years to create the 150 drawings for this book.
