Ex-Libris

In France and Belgium, there is a long tradition of comic shops producing small runs of limited edition ex-libris (bookplates) to accompany new releases. Usually the artist creates exclusive new artwork especially for the ex-libris. An artist may receive requests from multiple shops for an ex-libris for his upcoming album and he will produce a new piece of art for each. Sometimes the ex-libris will be signed and/or numbered adding to its collectibility. Ex-libris may be permanently affixed to the album or sold separately.
