A major full-color monograph on one of the most beloved American illustrators.
This is a great collection of images and a necessary volume for any illustration library. The book features 600 color images: many familiar works, as well as rare paintings, studies, and other artwork, including Leyendecker's 322 Saturday Evening Post covers (most reproduced nine to a page).
Unfortunately, the text only okay. The authors have dug up some interesting tidbits (such as the existence of a third Leyendecker brother) but the effect is to highlight what is missing. For example, a bland interview with a Leyendecker model does not include a photograph of the model! The acknowledgments do not include any of the foremost Leyendecker scholars or collectors outside of the Cutlers themselves.
