Description

A very sharp copy of a scarce collection of Moebius' abstract paintings and drawings. This book had one printing in 1990 and was never reprinted. Minimal text in French and 94 illustrations. Amazing abstract pieces in a variety of color media: mostly acrylics, marker, ink, and color pencil.

From the introduction by Pierre Sternckx:

Moebius is currently making large-format paintings for whom narrative seems to be excluded. These images do not evoke any kind of story, although the fossil conglomerates they represent somewhat reflect the bio-mechanical alloys made famous by Alien. The comparison, however, stops short. What Moebius has painted has neither head nor limbs, is not explicitly an articulable machine, or ever articulated. Rather, they are gems intertwined in computer circuits, emerald capacitors, or conversely lapis-lazulis becoming fused. In a word, the spectator finds himself confronted with what might be called warlike warfare: instinctual agglutination. We can guess at what forces converge here, in compact and immobile marquetries, and that there will be much to do to unite the elements. It is as if the draftsman, instead of deploying his devices into stories, had turned them back into primitive, fetal condensations....
