Description

This is a thick (360 page!) hardcover catalog for an extensive, wide-ranging exhibition of rare Crumb original art at the Alexander Gallery in New York City. Every item is illustrated, shot from the original, and prices are shown.

It includes an introduction by Crumb himself reproduced from his hand-written original.

According to Carl Richter, author of Crumb-ology (the most detailed bibliographic reference work of Crumb's oeuvre), the catalogue "includes most of the art from the show and additional work that wasn't exhibited. The initial printing of 1800 was greatly reduced after the show when 1300 unsold copies were destroyed [after the exhibition ended]."

This catalog was issued with a dollar bill inserted into each copy and the serial number of the dollar bill written inside the catalog alongside Alexander Gallery owner Alexander Acevedo's signature.

Most of the copies that come up for sale are missing the dollar bill, separated from the catalog by their owners. This catalog, scarce in itself, is rare with the matching dollar bill!

This copy is signed by the gallery owner-publisher Alexander Acevedo, and serial numbered with the matching serial numbered U.S. one dollar bill laid in. This copy also includes the original Alexander Gallery bill of sale dated 1/6/94 recording the sale to Link Yaco, a writer for Comic Book Profiles and Jack Kirby Collector among other comic publications. On the same page as the serial number, the book is inscribed "For Link, With Love, ---- 1/94" the signature is illegible but may be Alexander Acevedo's.
