As the result of an unfortunate game of cards, the Shingouz lose ownership of their company, Shingouzlouz, Inc. It so happens that this company, thanks to a vague interpretation of intergalactic laws, is the owner of the earth! Valerian, distracted by his upcoming retirement as a spatio-temporal agent, and Laureline must rectify this blunder and convince the new owner, a certain Sha-Oo, the "Thirster After Worlds," to return it to Galaxity.
